A house sparrow in monochrome
Hi everyone...

This picture of a common house sparrow is one of my favourites - I do realise it may be subjective, given the monochrome treatment, etc...

I gave it that treatment just to be different, then found myself liking it, but I've not shown it to too many people, so I'm seeking some critique here to see what others might think...

With a D300 and 300 f/4 + 1.4 converter - 1/125, f6.7 and ISO 500

A little messy David but with the crop and the lighter areas it works well for me,lovely feather detail brought out more with the B+W,very nice  :wavey:

I think the b&w treatment suits it really well and the lighting and detail on the bird and the perch is really beautiful. I'd agree though that the background is too fussy with eg the highlight to rear left being a bit too distracting. If its at all possible to clean up your site - tie back some of the background stuff and have another go I think you'l have a great basis for some beautiful images. As it is though its got a lovely luminous quality to it thats very appealing.

a pleasant image although I'm not a massive fan of B+W in wildlife photography apart from some particularly atmospheric images. I usually end up wishing I could see it in colour  I know others disagree though.

Hello David.

Like the idea and it works quite well but I feel it would be a lot stronger if you darken the bright area in the middle so the Sparrow becomes the brightest part. As it is I feel the middle area keeps pulling the eye awy from the Sparrow.
