Which is the better body for Landscape Photography: Canon 5d MkII or Canon 7D? I have 17-40; 24-105 and 70-200 IS 4 and wish to purchase a new Canon camera body. Appreicated

If you can afford both, this is easy ... 5dII.

Are you able to test the cameras yourself? There is a lot of information out there on both cameras, but in the end it will be you spending the money and using the body. In our opinion, we have not found the 7D to be a good performer for landscape and nature shooters (go here for our controversial review!) You'll find fans of both, so do your research and if possible do your own tests.

I am with Jesse, if you can afford it, hands down the 5DII, not even a close comparison.

cost factor aside....5d II, without any doubt.

The full frame sensor on the 5D MK II will render images with less noise and better dynamic range which will lead to a better color reproduction as well as a cleaner image overall in landscape photography. Those are quality L lenses which should be able to resolve a 21MP image so you will be able to print slightly larger or have more room to crop your images, there isn't a huge difference between 18 and 21MP but every little bit counts. The full frame sensor also means your 17-40 will be a true ultawide for capturing the grand view scenics, you would have to buy the 10-22mm to have and ultrawide lens on the 7D which means you will be paying almost as much as you would for the 5D Mk II and you would have an extra lens to carry around.

The 7D with the crop sensor and 8fps is more geared toward wildlife and sports photography so unless you do a lot of super telephoto work which I'm assuming you don't since your longest lens is 200mm the full frame 5D is the camera for you hands down.

5DMKII undoubtedly is "THE" choice. I own a canon 50D, 7D, and a 5DMKII, image quality is far superior plus the advantage of higher resulution thus giving you the opportunity for creative cropping.

Broken record I know but I'm with the herd on this one...hands down the 5D Mark II. Even though the 7D has the latest generation of Digic computers, the 5D Mark II renders excellent quality captures and for landscape especially, you'll appreciate your wide angle lenses being real wide angle. Even if you can't afford the 5DMarkII, buy it anyway rather than the 7D. I'm not dissing the 7D. I have one too and it's my "go to" lens for use with my 500 and wildlife but for landscape, it's always the 5D2. Good luck.

Leaving aside anything else you'd have to get the 10-20 to go with the 7D so you might as well
have the 5D2 unless you specifically need what the 7D offers I:E 8FPS and better AF

The 5d Mark II is the clear winner for landscape photos. Darwin
