Thanks to the fact that I do not have cable or anything at all right now, I orderd the DVDs "Travels to the Edge with Art Wolfe", both seasons as they did not give me a choice to just buy one, for $130.00. I'm just curious if anyone has seen the series, I think it's on PBS and I was reading about it in Outdoor Photographer (2007, I just now subscribed to the magazine). But has anyone watched it, and what do you think of it?

It's a great series. Definitely worth watching. He doesn't get super detailed into composition or technique, but just watching how he works is educational.

I like the first year and bought the DVD set. The second season Travels to the Edge II, is too much of a travellog for my liking with less than half of the time spent on wildlife and nature photography. More like the 4th DVD from season one.

What is the second season about? I bought them because I read that he talks about photography skills and travels, I want to travel so bad, I can't wait to get them!

I have watched a few of them. None in the second season, just because I've been busy. Interned with him. Watch how he works, how he moves, watch how he watches! Look carefully at the images he shows. Lots to learn from him. Don't expect that it will come directly at you. Sometimes, but not always. Take a look at his gallery website, too.

Art's a hack; his work is mediocre and the TV show is nothing more than aggressive marketing.

     :toast:

Kidding of course, he's at the top of his game and all us outdoor photog types can learn something or other from him.

I like to see that his show seems to be on regular rotation, on several PBS channels. Can give hope to us all...

Definitely worth the money, but I would say that if you can enjoy cable it would make more sense to get it cheap than buy the DVD's. If you're looking for an instructional photography course this will not meet your needs, but I would recommend the series to almost anyone for the content. It's not just the photographs that make the show great. It's also the incredible video work and excellent use of applicable music. After buying one of Art's books I noticed that in order to put the images on the screen, the photos had to be cropped. I would buy one of his books before I bought the DVD's if I were to study composition.
If anyone is wondering when the next season is, it's expected to start at the end of next year. The reason for the lag is that they wanted to get at least a 3 year sponsorship. (Paraphrased from Art himself)
:jump:  I can't wait.

I have watched all the episodes of both seasons. I didn't really learn too much from a photography standpoint, but I did really enjoy watching every episode. He goes to some really beautiful/interesting locations and now I have even more places to visit on my ever growing list.

I hope to enjoy it because I love documentaries like National Geographic, Nova, PBS and the others, so I think I will definitely enjoy these, we don't have cable and can't even get cable from where we live so this is how things work for me.
