Moonrise over Inyo's Friday evening before CANP Gathering
A traditional stop for me if I can make it from Long Beach to Lone Pine in time to catch the sunset on Friday, the Alabama Hills. It gets my photographic brain cells re-energized, if I have any left. Olympus E-500 telephoto.

Paul,

Great capture of the moonrise from the Alabama Hills. I really like the layers starting with the dark silhouette of the AH at the bottom, thru and including the shadow created by the Sierra crest and the warmly lit Inyo's. A little bit of empty space in the sky, but not much to be done about that, and the moon does a nice job of taking up some of that space.

Yep, Lone Pine makes a very good pit stop area, as well as a good point of destination too.
I can't tell if this a completely full moon or not, looks like it's pretty darn close anyway. The detail in the moon is really good, and like Lon stated, the layering throughout the hills & shadowed area works nicely too.

Wow Paul,

You really get up to Lone Pine a lot for living in LB. I've got to hand it to you for your dedication to visiting one of my favorite parts of the state. Do you normally spend the night?

With regards to the image I also like the layering and the full moon is a cool addition. One thing I would like to see is a little less of the negative space (blue sky). So a crop from the top right above the moon might work better.

Paul, I really like the way the light hits the Inyo Mountains late in the day. It really makes the geology stand out. I stop in the Alabama Hills often on my way to and from Mammoth. It’s one of my favorite spots too.

Paul,

Overall I like this. I agree with the suggestions already made. I like the layers, but I'd like to see more detail in the dark areas. A ND grad would have helped here, I think. In terms of processing, you might look at reducing the cyan in the sky and increasing the contrast in the moon by bumping up the high values in it just a bit. The color in the Inyo Mountains is very nice.

Nice! As others have mentioned I really enjoy the various layers and colors captured here. I might try opening up the darkest bottom portion a little. So that the shadow area has just a touch more blue to it. Other than that, this works for me.
