I have seen some nice galleries on Facebook including other NPN members. And intially I was resistant to posting there. But once I became comfortable with posting low rez images I noticed an overall good response. The audience is quite different than photography forums.

I know there are concerns regarding copywright issues, etc... But do you find the risk/benefit worthwhile? It seems like technology is opening up new avenues for marketing and general sharing of one's images with much wider audiences. This is also true with the music indusrty where stars such as Colbie Callait were discovered primarily on the internet - youtube.

I don't do Facebook. Never have...never will.

I may do a blog at some point, though. And, even though my last name is 'Birdwell', I won't ever 'tweet'.

I have enough trouble time-wise updating my own site, my Portfolios.net portfolio and keeping up with a few forums, so I can't see ading to the confusion any time soon.

Derek, I guess I fall into a minority and do not have a Facebook, Twitter, Blog, or much of anything else with that requirement for constant updating. Some of my distancing from all that is in part that I worked in the high-tech communications field for 37 years and was basically on call 7/24 for all those years. So, do I want folks to find me and know what I'm up to now, not a chance.
Also, it would seem to me if those posting areas were not kept updated it would appear as though you were not busy and or well, "up to date" so to speak.

I finally succumbed to my friends pressure and signed up for Facebook ( I wanted to see some old fraternity photos) But I don't post anything for the general public to see, just for friends and family. At this time, I have no plans to use Facebook or blogs to market my stuff, but I probably should if I ever want to make any decent money at it.

I've created a Facebook business page and am basically using it as a blog. About once a week I am posting a photo and writing a couple of paragraphs about it. I have collected about 30 "fans" so far, so each time I post my photo shows up on their wall. About 20% of my fans are friends of friends, so my reach is expanding a little. I am definitely writing for non-photographers and trying to include a personal touch.

Yeah,

I can see it acting as a blog for some who don't have the time or desire to really set that up. I haven't had the time to create a blog myself. But facebook acts that way for me in that it at least it notifies friends and family of my latest photos. And while I include some text it requires very minimal effort as its already designed to auto notify, etc...

I haven't setup a separate business page which may be the next logical step as the one's I've seen look pretty good.

Keeping up with all the surfers and friends I know is impossible without facebook... So yes, I'm an addict. But I wont add those cheesy farm games or mafia ones... LOL

As for posting photos, well I always put the ugly watermark on my stuff and keep the absolute best works offline...
