I'm thinking about an Antarctic Tour in 2011. I'd like to get some time on the continent, as well as the Falklands and South Georgia. I'd prefer a relatively small, "expedition" class ship, not a cruise ship or a Russian ice-breaker.
Cheeseman's would be my first choice, but they're not running a tour in 2011. Any suggestions?

I know Michael Reichmann used to lead a photo tour each year, but I don't know if he still does.

Jim:
I took the National Geographic/Lindblad tour aboard the National Geographic Endeavour (98 passengers) in Feb. 2008 to the peninsula, South Georgia, and the Falklands. Everything about the excursion was top-rate, in my opinion.

I have been to Antarctica, Falklands and South Georgia last january/february on a 19 day cruise with Quark on the Akademik Shokalskyi (48 passengers). The trip was absolutely fabulous The expedition team was great especially Shane Evoy the team leader. He went out of his way to make things work and most of the times it did work out. Of course the weather should be good enough but we did 25 landings in 19 days and that is considering that you are at sea for 8 days. Even the days at sea were great. The team kept us busy with lectures, films, wildlife waches and whatever they might think of. Absolutely fantastic. Shane Evoy has just signed a new 4 year contract, so there is a chance he will be on the trip. If you are interested: some of my pictures are on my website www.luykenfotografie.com. I hope this will help and don't hesitate to email me if you need more information.

Joe VanOs Photo Safaris runs a great trip, I was on his 2008 trip. Natural Habitat runs a yearly trip also.
