Saw this road sign between Blanding and Monticello, Utah and was amazed that someone who works for the Utah Dep't. of Transportation had a sense of humor.
Gallows humor actually, as this is one of the worst stretches of roads in the entire region for vehicle collisions with deer.

What sections of highway in your area would this sign be appropriate?

It used to be Parker Road, but in the 27 years I have lived here, there are none left to commit suicide. The herd has all but vanished.

I would say the entire area where I grew up, in the Cuyahoga Valley in NE Ohio, should completely be listed as a deer suicide area. It's crawling with white-tail.

Ha! That's crazy. I'd say the stretch between Ridgway and Montrose is pretty bad.

That's a great sign, I'm sure it gets more attention than the standard warning signs.

Yep, speaking from personal experience, I helped one commit suicide on that stretch last spring. Absolutely no time to hit the brakes. It literally jumped from the bushes onto my front bumper. Only damaged the bumper and one fender, but the bill was $1,000. It's the only deer that I ever hit, and I felt terrible the rest of the drive home. :frown:

I once knew this comedian named Greg Ray who was from Georgia. He had a bit about seeing turtles smooshed on the road, which he claimed were suicides. "The turtle HAD to know he wasn't gonna make it, right?"

Great catch, John. :toast:

The stretch of I-25 going to and from Raton Pass (Colorado side) has a fresh coat of deer and bear blood on a regular basis :frown: This pic would've been a good entry for last weeks challenge.

Nice find, John. I was warned about that stretch of road last time I was out that way. The first few miles of US 36 just south of Lyons, CO (where I live) is known for lots of deer/elk suicides. I've seen some nasty accidents over the years I lived here. Maybe a sign like this would help.

I'm not sure what area is the worst in Colorado, but about 7 years ago my daughter and brand-new son-in-law hit a deer on Vail pass. The deer's suicide almost totaled their car. They had left their wedding about an hour earlier--it was a pretty tough way to start a honeymoon!

+1 for Hwy 13 Meeker-Craig-Baggs, Then you have to dodge the Eagles, Ravens, Magpies, and Buzzards too come spring. It's outright carnage!

That is a good catch John, wonder how long they'll leave it.

That section between Blanding & Monticello is freakin' ridiculous, John. I hate making that drive at night which is inevitably when I am forced to do it. Great catch on the sign!

Hwy 115 between Colorado Springs and Penrose; at least a few years ago.

This is hilarious John! Thanks for sharing
