Hello:
Trying to get out and take more photos of this place, but I do have to work...plus it's light ALL the time, and bright, so even though it is gorgeous it's hard to find that great light...but here are some recent efforts.

This is looking across the Ross Ice Shelf toward the South Pole...it's known as Black Island.

Both images really nice. I like the from and textures in the first. It reminds me of a closeup of flower petals. Very elegant. The second also has a nice softness to it. Keep up the good work. Would like to see more.

Looking across McMurdo Sound at the Royal Society Range. The Ice Runway is in the foreground with 4 C-130's parked on it or "Hercs" as they are called. This was taken after a major storm, which actually left some snow, which is unusual this time of year...but there were 60 mph gusts. At least I didn't have to drive to work in it. :)

Curious as to what these look like...the laptop makes it a little difficult to process these very white photos.

I think they are stunning Cynthia. The C-130s almost look like miniature models. As Dean said, the first is very elegant and the second has a classic look.
Cynthia, these are terrific! Each shot has a very clear message and all of them are very well done. The drama created by the background mountains in the 3rd shot really gets me juiced!
Tremendous work!

They look just fine to me! Perhaps a little tweaking when you get home.
I especially like #1 and #3. What an amazing place to be this winter (summer)!
What kind of work are you doing?

Looks beautiful, Cynthia! Keep em' coming!

Way cool. The C-130's really show how big the mountains in the background are.

Very nice, Cynthia. You should have quite a collection by the time you return.
Wow!!! That is some great stuff!!! I wish to visit there someday...

OK...so...the snow wasn't pink...I guess I shouldn't use the portrait mode on that one...it's actually a new snow drift.
The mountains are 66 miles away and at sea level...so they are huge. Stunning is the word!
These were all taken with my 70-300IS.

I hope you are blogging, or journalling as this will make a great story of your time down there.
Love the photos, and yes, keep them coming!

That first one does look like flower petal, sweet! Love the C-130s in that 2nd shot. Is the runway ice or is ice/snow mix? Do the planes have extra large tires or do they have skis in addition to tires....that's a lot of weight to displace if the runway is an ice/snow mix? Must be real interesting watching them take off and land!

Very nice work, thank you for sharing. I'll be the C-130 unit would love to have a copy of that shot for their wall.

Nice stuff. I love the perspective in #3. You should make a poster of that one. Keep 'em coming.

I really like the curves and number one. Very cool shot of the planes also.

Great shots of a place many (most?) of us will never have the opportunity to travel to. Thanks for sharing!

I assume that is a red algae on the snow in #1?
