Some fall photos...
I didn't shoot too many fall color shots this year but I thought I'd post a few from RMNP, along with some shots around Moab. This first one was shot with my new Nikon 14-24 at 14mm, 30 secs, ISO 3200.

More shots can bee seen at:

My secret spot in RMNP...

Okay, one more, this one actually is a secret spot...

Wow Grant, to hard to pick a favorite. There all great! Those secret spots are working pretty well for you. Nice work.

You've got some really nice stuff here Grant, but the Arches star shots are fabulous! I also really like your secret spot. BTW, where is that?

Really like those starry sky shots from Arches. It also looks like you found my not so secret fern spot in RMNP. :toast:

A fantastic set here and at your website. Your night shots are always so wonderful to see. Those are my favorites.

Super starry night shot!! What time of night was this taken? Given the amount of western horizon light, I would guess about 2½ hours after sunset at the most!

Nice shot of the "secret spot". Did you do the hike in the dark? Makes the hike much more interesting.

I love those Astro shots! I assume they were shot with the lens wide open?

Great set of shots Grant. I think my favorite is the Arches image. The RMNP one is a great composition too.

Grant, greeat work in all of them. The second shot I really admire just because this is one of my favorite subjects, and the leading is great, right to the back of the image. I want to say I feel like I've been to said secret spot back in 2003. Great work on that shot as there is a radial feel with interesting features at all edges of the scene.

That first one is AWESOME! Really cool! Also really like #4. Great stuff all around!

These are all really nice. I also like the image of the deer near Landscape Arch on your site. Looking forward to the upcoming Arches book.

A truly fine collection amigo, with special kudos for #1 & #4.
Looking forward to your new book on Arches!

Thanks for the comments!

Bill, yes I always shoot the astro shots at the widest aperture my lens has, usually f2.8 or f1.4.

Tony, I took my Bear Lake shot at sunset, as it's one of the rare spots in RMNP that can work for sunrise or sunset.

Don, the night shot was taken around midnight, about 4 hours after sunset. The horizon light is from the moon that had just set. I've found that if there is still ambient light from the sun, the sky doesn't look so black...it's more colorful.

Paul, my secret spot was taken in ... Utah. Darn, I've got to stop giving away these locations or I'll have no secret ones left!

And Chris, if you felt like you were risking your life while climbing up to and down from the "secret Utah spot" in 2003, then we were probably at the same place.

Oops. Should have clarified - I was talking about your Utah secret spot. It's an "interesting" hike in total darkness. Kind of enhances the "risking your life" feeling. My wife loved the location and hike up.

Oh, yeah, it was definitely starting to get dark on my way back. I made it down the tough part while it was still a little light and got back to my car just as it got totally dark. I'd forgotten my flashlight for this hike (and usually I take two everywhere), so it made getting to my car a bit more urgent on a moonless night.

the astro shot is great!

These are all great Grant! The people on this forum are making it hard to choose a favorite with loading so many awesome shots! IO am probably partial to 2 and 4 if I had to choose.

Very Nice, 1 is technically impressive, and 2 is my overall fav.

They are all good but I really love your starry night!

Wow, the first one is a killer shot! :toast:
