Here's another image from my short trip to the Eureka Sand Dunes last weekend. I shot many comps from this side for about an hour or so. I was moving closer to the dunes as I worked. My wife likes this one the most while I tend to like the other one posted in ESS. The next time I head out there I think I'll move in a little closer and more to the south.

Here's a couple links you might enjoy:

Oh, Caltrans just finished the construction of a new roadside parking area in the Stove Pipe Wells area for visitors to park and enjoy the dunes. I guess before people would just park on the sides of the road to head out to the dunes, which was causing accidents.

Nice interplay of shadows and range of tones.

WOW, that is some very fine grained looking sand out there, Cory. Looks very smooth from this angle. The shadows work perfectly in giving some excellent definition to the scene overall.
Good to hear about the parking area being added to the Stove Pipe Wells roadside as that was always a somewhat congested area at times.
Also, seeing the map you provided about the DVNP back roads brought to mind the recent finding of the remains of the 4 long time missing German tourists out there. As I recall they rented a van in Vegas and drove out to a remote area in DVNP to a point of shredding the tires off the van on a dirt road. It was a mystery up until just recently as to whatever happened to the missing.

Thanks Harley & Paul!
@Harley: I didn't comment on your recent b&w image of the aspens, but thought it was a really great b&w image
@Paul: the german tourist story just ran this week. Pretty crazy. From what I've heard DV is really pop w/ the germans and they all come during summer. Pretty wild. Sounds like the sheriffs dept is going to be doing more investigating in the area they found the bones and id. Every summer seems someone expires out in DV due to getting lost and exposure.

Impressive dunes Cory and the b&w works great. I really have to get out there one of these days.

B&W landscapes are my favorite and this one is very impressive with wide range of tones and nice comp too. I, however, see some hallos on the dunes horizon to the middle right side...it happens to me sometimes when I sharpen for web and then overlook it...just a minor nit but would be good to get rid of it...

Great tones and sensuous lines captured here. This makes me want to get out there again, now that its cool. Well done!

thanks rudy, Debjit, and Eric!
@Debjit: I did a quick and dirty down size from 800 to 720 for this forum and that's probably why this looks a bit funky.

You have a really nice flow in this, Cory! I like the tones and texture very much. B&W really works well with this.

Well done!
