Hi
Apricate any help. I could look at the pictures on 1D mark 3. Tried to to unload the card on a Jobo Spectator. I had to try several times but finally it worked. Was able to download some of the pictures. Thougth it was something wrong with the spectator. Continued to shoot, Camera showing the pictures thinking the card was OK. When I got home I tried to unload the card. Card reader did not recognize the card. Put it back in camera. Camera says unable to create album. It is a pity because the card contains pictures of the elusive Green Headed Oriel which lives only in a hard accessible mountain in the Africa.

Run The disc recovery program provided by Sandisc. Can't remember the name right now, but it's referenced on their site and comes free with most of their discs now. Your symptoms make me think that you've been erasing files rather than reformatting the disc when you're finished with it. We used to get those symptoms now and then until we started reformatting in the camera. Haven't seen them since.

Thanks HAnk
I have tried the rescue program but no help. It seems like the card reader is not able to read the card. I have tried two different readers. No I have not erased pictures instead of reformatting. It seems to me that the directory on the card is corruptet.

Yup, sounds that way to me too. We've had that happen exactly once, and the files were recoverable, though it cost us. We sent the card off to the same company that produces Sandisc's software, and for a fee ($100 as I recall) they were able to pull the files. Sounds like your images would be worth the cost of recovery, painful as it might be.
Wish I could be more specific about the name, but it's been a few years and I really don't have the time to dig right now. It's on an old computer that I'd have to set up first. If I haven't provided enough clues, get back to me and I might be able to dig out the name before the weekend is over.

Hank, if your SD memory card is 4GB or larger it is probably a SDHC (High Capacity) card. A SDHC card requires a SDHC compatible card reader. Card readers older than 18-months are probably not compatible with the SDHC format, and you will need a new one. I went thru the same problem when I purchased the Canon G11 with a 4GB SD memory card.
No, my problems were with the old extreme III card a couple of years ago.
I got the new card readers per Sandisc's recommendations along with the batch of IV's I bought and like you, no probs. I will say that I bought both a firewire and a USB2 reader out of curiosity. What a difference! Ended up trashing the USB2 reader and replacing it with another firewire model. Firewire was more than twice as fast.

Thanks guys. I had to deliver it to some recovery specialists. They managed to restore all pictures. They said the directory was damaged
