I recently lost my 82mm thin Singh Ray warming polarizer to the Havasu River and can't come to grips with spending $300 on another one. I really like the Moose warming polarizer, but I don't think they make a thin version of that one; I need it for use on it on my 16-35 and I think there will be too much vignetting. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried regular Hoya and Tiffen circular polarizers in the past and I find the multi-coated glass very difficult to keep clean. I am leaning towards a single coated 82mm B & W filter (never owned one b/f), which I can get for about a 1/3 of the price of the Singh Ray...Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations. I really don't want to spend more than about $140....

I had the 77mm B+W Kaesemann MRC (not slim mount) and that was a great filter. Easy to keep clean and the ring is real brass, very well made. I sold it when I went from the 17-40mm to the 16-35mm, but this time around I bought the Hoya Pro1 Digital 82mm (very cheap on eBay from Honk Kong dealers, under $100). However, keeping it clean has been more than frustrating. I highly suggest B+W, but where did you get your price? The 82mm B+W I saw was $273, and the slim mount wasn't even available at 82mm (I looked here). If you have a good source, do tell!

Michael, I just found the 82mm slim Kaesemann CPL on eBay from the same dealer I've purchased from before, for $186 & free shipping, right here. I might join you on that one! They also have the standard CPL for $99.50, here. You might be seeing my Hoya in this forum soon...

I bought the regular B+W CPL 77mm for my 17-40mm Canon. Works fine, easy to clean with no vignetting. Bought if from Filter Connection but the Ebay price Paul mentions seems better. Good luck.

Michael, I've used an 82mm B+W polarizer for years and have always been quite happy with it. Use it on all my lenses. I see Band H Photo has the 82mm B+W polarizer for 107.00, and the multicoated one for 205.00. Both circular (shooting film I can get away with the linear).
I tried a Singh-Ray warm polar a couple of years ago and got a defective one; ended up being quite a deal getting a refund and have been hesitant to spend the money again. Only reason I tried the SinghRay was to gain the 2/3 stop. The B+W polarizers require 2 stops additional exposure as opposed to the SinghRay 1.3stops. Don't think you can go wrong with the B+W though.
Thanks for your responses. Here is the polarizer I was looking at: B + W 82mm Circular Polarizer Wide Angle Slim Mount Coated Glass Filter - its for sale at several places on the web for $107.00. Its not the Kaesemann version.

Michael, check out [url]www.2filters.com[/url[ They have Marumi Filters. I bought a 77 mm CP to replace a Hoya that was a pain to clean and kept falling apart when I twisted it to remove it from the lens. I like it a lot. Easy to clean and good workmanship. Images are excellent. Cost for the 82 mm you need is about $144.

I have the B+W 82mm Kaesemann slim mount for my 16-35mm II, wonderful filter by all means, I wouldn't get anything else! However, it is pushing that $300 mark, but it was worth every penny. The optical quality is wonderful and it is very resistant to scratching compared to other CP filters I've had.

I wish the excellent B+W thin filters had just enough of a thread or rim to use a standard lens cap. The push-on cap's a bit fiddly.
