Hey Larry, I've seen what you can do with that lens and it is one terrific piece of glass for sure - I know you will miss it but someone will give it a good home I'm sure. Glad to hear you will be at home some instead of tripping all over the world - 'tis the season!

Thanks Tim! This next week at home is for sure an unusual thing for me. I have been working in St. Louis for the past 8 weeks, but, starting the Sunday after Thanksgiving I will be in a small community three hours north of Edmonton Alberta Canada called Swan Hills. From all reports about 0 degrees with all kinds of critters roaming the streets....may need to re-think this lens thing......

The only way I would let go of my 500f/4 is if someone handed me an 800f/5.6 to replace it! Unless you need the money now, I would urge you to take your time. Wait at least until the economy revs up a bit so you can get what it is worth.

What kind of price are you looking for Larry?

Daniel, don't worry, I will not be giving it away but asking a fair price. And, if it does not sell I suppose I will have to find time to go shooting.....

The 500/f4 IS was the lens I missed the most when I switched from Canon to Nikon a few years back.
It took an act of congress (and some help from Jason at Bedford camera in Rogers) to secure a 600/f4 VR from Nikon. Fox news channel showed a picture of me using it handheld.
Anyway the 500/f4 IS is just about the perfect big lens, unbelievably sharp, fast and accurate focus.
If you've ever wanted a top gun, this is one of the best.
