I was at Pfiefer Beach in Big Sur a few weeks ago. It was mid day and the sun was very bright through a thin fog and mist. I found some interesting colors and patterns in the sand at the north end of the beach.

This is my first attempt at posting a photo to this forum. I am not sure if I have maximized image quality within the 200k limit. I would also appreacheate comments about the color and composition.

Thanks

I like the placement of the main subject in the composition. The colors work
well with the central subject. Well done for your first post, Roland. I'm looking
forward to seeing future postings.

Roland, I like this for all the reasons Robert has mentioned. The composition definitely works, the only improvement on color might come from some softer light overall, this seems a bit harsh on the lighting. Otherwise I think it makes a very nice beachscape.

Roland,

I like the way you have composed this. The image is very well balance and make a really nice abstract. Good color as well. Paul mentioned the light, but overall, very well done. I look forward to seeing more of your posts.

I really like your choice in composition, at least for me gives the idea of water direction and works off of it nicely. The tones in the sand are very nice. Double check your color profile (its in AdobeRGB and for web work its best to work in sRGB).

Roland,

Glad you finally decided to post here on CANP. This is wonderful!

Two things stand out for me. One, the posted quality is superb and just goes to show that it can be done! Secondly, this is a great and outstanding example of why one shouldn't necessarily put the camera away because it's the middle of the day! the texture AND color are excellent, as is the composition. I really like this sandy, beach image.

Nice work - hope to see more from you!

Roland,
Pretty painterly artistic qualities here. I'm liking the tri color sand, that is memorable of that beach near the blowhole and other cave there. I can see every grain of sand there and the natural placement of the kelp bud is nice too. Very nice work.

Nice meeting at the CANP meet up. Where is all of those photos?

Well seen and captured! I really enjoy the sand colors captured here. I quickly flipped this horizontally and liked the way my eye swept across the image. Might be worth checking out. Other than that, this definitely works for me. Good stuff!

I think this is great! Sometimes isolated elements have a way of looking "placed" in the scene, but your comp is very natural and pleasing. I absolutely love the tones and the detail is excellent. Well captured!

Thank you all for your very generous comments and encouragement. I will post more as I can. I also enjoyed meeting all of you at June Lake. I am looking forward to more such gatherings.

I did not place these items, Even the kelp bud was found that way. That is why the color streaks flow so smoothly from the kelp. As the water receeds, the different colors of sand separate out.

The lighting was harsh at mid day, but the problem is probably because I overdid the gausian blur adjustment. I am still figuring these things out and need your feedback to learn. Thanks again for your comments.
