Hi,

A second image from our time at St Margarets Bay here in Kent, this time around high tide, unfortunately the severe weather didn't materialise fully (apparently it did elsewhere)....

A slightly wider view, interested to hear views on the comp, as some elements are quite central ( I wouldn't normaly post a similar image so soon)

All looks OK to me Phil. Plenty of thirds etc. The actual sea level line could go both ways I suppose.Up or down

Compared to the previous one I find there is perhaps too much white in the sea and the brightness in the sky is a little less balanced here. Compositionally too, I think it helps to have the dark pebble foreground running fully into the corner as in your first effort. But I admire your determination to get the shot on a grim day - I had my feet up in front of a log fire drinking a pint or two of the local brew instead.

I also prefer your previous shot which, although it doesn't quite have the energy of this one, just appeals to me more as a composition. :toast:

I too preferred your previous shot allthough both images are very moody.

My vote goes to the first as well.

I think I preferred the first one as well, even though this shot is beautifully composed. This one captures the day as it was. For once I was glad that we decided to go out and do the Christmas shopping instead, although Duncan seems to have had a better idea.

I like this one Phil :toast:

But I know bugger all about landscapes so that might not be a good thing :wavey:

Hi Phil, must admit I am another who prefers the first also. You have captured the drama in this, but what troubles me is the lack of light on the beach and cliff, which accentuates the whites in the water imho.
That said, I am the same as Ian re: landscapes, AND at least you managed to get out of your car

Hello Phil.

The image you have taken is fine and a good record shot of the day.

Its easy to say this as I wasnt there but on what I can see I think I would have taken a different aproach. The cliffs make for a nice back drop and the sky is also very nice but its the forground that is not strong enouth for me. If I couldnt see the wave breaks in the image then this would have been fine, but I think I would have used them as the forground interest and used some slower shutter speeds and waited for the wave to smash over then and then take the shot with the water withdrawing this makes for very some very nice effects. I would also do the ones of the waves coming over the breaks with the fast shutter speeds as well.
