A picture taken from a sunnier time. It’s very easy to see the reptilian ancestry in these birds.

All C&C welcome.

Nikon D3 with Nikon 300 mm/2.8 and 2x TC. 1/1600 sec at F5.6, ISO 400, EV +0.3 HH, FF. A second bird was cloned out from the RH side.

I agree with you, Mike about them looking reptilian, I guess it is because those feathers often look like scales. I would have preferred to see the bird a little less central, with more space on the right, but reading your comments it looks as though that was not an option and you have made the best of what was possible.

Hi Mike,

lovely shot and they do look very reptilian. I would have liked to have seen more space on the RHS but understand it is not always possible. The OOF bit on the left hand bottom corner is a bit distracting but apart form that a very nice image

Like this loads, the colour and detail is superb. Agree about OOF LH side but no big deal. :toast:

Mike

The subject detail is really good and I agree this species cormorants and herons seem have that reptilian look about them.

Nice I think a polariser could have made the picture a little richer.

Lovely image Mike, shame about the bottom left but I love the detail in the wings. I would maybe sharpen the eye and beak up as it seems to be lost in the image due to the super sharp wings.

Hi Mike

I think it is a very pleasing image. There colour of the background complements the darker green of the bird, fine detail on the feathers. Only one criticism, I would have cloned the out the out of focus object at the bottom left hand corner of the image.

But a great Image
