My fav so far out of the three.

I like this one too but there is something lacking.

1st and 3rd are the winners for me. I wasn't aware of any fall colors in SoCal until you posted this

I am partial to the middle one. I like the good lines of the trunks mixed with the colors.

I find the first to be a bit busy. The third is feeling cut off, although I like the foreground and the strong anchored base of the tree with the dark background for the colors.

The first and last images grab my attention the most.

I like all the various vegetation types and colors in the first. There's a nice sense of depth and balance. Although I'm a bit ambivalent about the trunk leaving and reentering the scene in the ULC. Not sure what could be changed in camera or if there is any crop that works.

In the third image I love the contrast of the golden leaves against that dark bg. The nice lighting also really brings out the wonderful branch structure. Kind of reminds me of a Japanese maple. A 4x5 crop eliminating some of the left side might balance out the frame more. Not sure about that though.

In the second one, I wonder if focusing closely on just the leaves and cool bark textures might made for an interesting image in itself?

Thanks for sharing some more of your recent local fall images.

Tough scenes to compose for sure. I think that a slight crop off the top of the third image would make it the strongest comp for me. It has a very nice balance.

Some nice color for So Cal Steve. The comps aren't grabbing me though if I had to pick, I'd say the 1st image is working best for me.

The shape of the tree and the contrast with the background really make the last one stand out to me. Looks like a lot of nice color down there.

My favorite is the third one. The first is nice too but the clump of dead branches on the bottom middle bothers me.

My preference is for the third one, Steve. I would like to see a bit more detail in the dark background, though. There is a little there, and my tries to resolve it, taking my attention from the tree.

Like the third one best. The shape of the tree and composition is the most interesting of the three pics for me. Maybe play around with some crops that would take some of the empty space away from the left. Could resolve the "something lacking" feel you have. Nice finds this fall.
