Had a great couple of weeks in CO this fall. It wasn't the most productive photographically, but it was great hanging out with Brent, Jimmy G., Harley, Chris and Darren, and running into many others.
It took my sluggish brain way too long to adjust from grand-scenic mode to intimate-scene mode when faced with some of the challenging aspen conditions that were ubiquitous, but I managed to get one or two shots that I was pleased with. This was taken from a trail off of Prince Creek Rd, southeast of Carbondale. Probably the one and only dramatic sunrise we had on the trip.

Rick, this is REALLY nice. Wonderful colors, range of tones and composition. The impact of the GND also seems to add some depth.

The gold light and blue skies contrast well! Nice touch of light on the peaks.

Cool shot Rick, love the colors.

Holy cow! This is just stunning. I love the light, and I love the contrast in colors between the warm foreground and the cool blue tones of the sky.
This one begs to be printed BIG!

I also wanted to add that the defoliated trees create a nice sense of depth for the mid frame area as well as contrast to the turning scrub oak in the foreground.

VERY Big! You know, beside the huge color impact you've achieved (and the great LIGHT), I REALLY like the composition, because even with the small space we have to display these images, this one makes you feel like you're kneeling right there seeing it all in person. Well done.

Beautiful light, well captured & great composition.
I agree with Art, those bare trees add a lot.
I think you managed the "challenging" conditions rather nicely.

An excellent shot. Lots of depth, great tonal range and I really love the scrub oak in the foreground. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome image! You have some wonderful light going on here. Great comp with the foliage in the foreground. It really adds to the feeling.
A very nice image and great use of the colorful scrub oak in a down year for aspen. Always good to see your work here, Rick!

Great luminosity and color. The light is pretty great, too. Awesome shot.

Super sweet, Rick. The light is awesome and your processing is right on.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I'll definitely be printing this big, or as big as I can print it on the 3800. A lot of tedious cloning awaits however. It's not easily visible in this web version, but behind the bare tree on the left is a colossal mansion. They've got an epic view front and back, but all the same I would have been grateful if they had just built the thing in Carbondale...
Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Rick,
Wow! That is beautiful. I like the way you framed it so that the yellows in the foreground and in the middle seem to lead the eye back to the peaks. Nice light on the peaks. I would bet this is awesome printed big! Just gorgeous, fantastic shot.
Hope you had a great thanksgiving.

Sweet shot! Love the foreground colors and the light hitting the peaks. Beautiful!
