Grey Seal Pup in a Sandstorm
One from the weekend, some nice conditions again but this time I was working on the greys.

Canon 1DS MK11, 500mm lens, F4, 1/800, ISO 200

Lovely! You'd be tempted to say "shame about the blue top" then you realise that without it the sand bouncing upwards off the seals head would be invisible! Excellent evocation of a wild place and creature.

Beautiful colours, conditions and subject. The pattern of their whiskers is amazing. Lovely work, Danny.

I like the blue and the slight vignetting.

Great shot Danny, I love the sound bouncing off the head along with the sand in the eyes. But I would be tempted to take a slice off the top of the blue as I find it to dominant at the moment.

Really enjoying your current series, looks like you have spent a lot of time with sand...

The image conveys to the reader exactly what you 'the photographer' is experiencing and the 'blue' just gives it that edge.

Danny the sand man. Great shot no more, no less. The blowing sand and the leaning against the wind takes this one to a higher level. Well done!!!!

Brilliant. Echo all comments above. How on earth do you manage to take shots like this and keep your camera and lens working?

The sand flying off the seal's head is great and the colour of the dark blue background really compliments the seal. Great work. You must be well sand blasted by now!

He seems to have sand in just about every orifice. I guess you can probably say the same.

Nice one Danny. :toast:

Great shot Danny. It looks as if the seal is enjoying this 'sand bath'. :toast: :toast:

I'm not normally a fan of seal photos, but this one is fantastic, probably the best I've seen. The deep blue of the sky and the sand bouncing off the head make it, I could look at it for hours.

Another superb seal shot - I agree it's the sand blowing from the head that makes it.

The seal looks a bit 'ying-yang' - one side covered in sand (i.e. the direction the wind is blowing the sand onto the seal) and one side not covered. The whiskers stand out a treat and the sand blowing off the top of the head adds to the shot. Is there a slight vignette on this? W :toast: W

Finally decided to pull my finger out and start contributing regularly to this forum. As I've said before mate this is right out of the top drawer, undoubtedly one of, if not the best seal image that I've seen from this location. The blue not only adds to the image, it's essential to see the sand blowing off the seals head and moves the image from superb into the realm of yet another, boringly predictable, sick of the sight of your name, winning competition entry. I don't enjoy jeolously as an emotion and am tiring of you making me experience it!!
