Top notch John. Love the cheeky expression. Not so keen on the background if I had to pick something.

Well underrated birds, magpies. :toast:

Thanks Marcus
The only reason I posted this was as a example of a black and white bird in bright sunlight in a highly reflective aquatic situation. and with no "photoshop " processing.
Cheers

Great shot of a species not often seen at a pond. Minor crit is that the foreground leaves hide the reflection slightly.

I like it John.

I don't know about you, John, but I find these birds, although confiding, far from easy to do. I think you need to drop the whites on the plumage a tad, but if this is without any post-processing I have only admiration.

One of the most skittish birds to photograph usually, much harder than jays for example.

Nice detail on the bird, but the reflection would have capped it off. :toast:

nice shot of a hard to capture bird, shame about the OOF leaf covering up the reflection, but what can you do, you take what you see - like it

cheers

Very nice John,

nicely exposed

They are tricky little buggers to get a decent shot of

Hi John

Very nice image of an often very tricky species - OOF FG leaves draw your eye a little but this is a very minor nit!

These are by far the most common birds in my garden and I don't have a decent shot of one. I'd be very happy to have taken this one. Exposure seems spot on, although my local ones seem to have rather more of a green/blue colouration

Hello John.

You've done a good job on this and a bird I'm still have trouble getting right.

John

A very good example of one of the most difficult subjects I find. I've asked the question before on here how do you go about handling black and white birds? Which colour is the primary focus or do you leave it to PP?

Barry
I don't know really !!!
I have the camera set on low contrast, as I tend to use a high ISO setting so it reduces the noise a bit, and I have the meter setting EV
down 1 stop
Cheers
