Sorry if this has been covered. I did a search and didn't find an answer. I have also spent some time on Lightroom Help and Adobe Forums.
I have the original version of Lightroom. I only use it for cataloging at this point, and am saving my $ to upgrade to PS4 (or 5).
Recently purchased a new computer. Loaded Lightroom on the new computer and moved the catalog (ircat?) over with no problem. Also oved the preview files over. When I open LR it has thumbnails for some of the photos and just has blank spaces for others. When I point to them, it shows the filenames. I cannot seem to find any place where it will find or regenerate the thumbnails.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Hello Andy,
two things you could try;
optimizing your catalog (Edit -> Catalog Settings -> Relaunch and Optimize)
rerendering your previews (Library -> Previews -> Render standard size previews)

Also, in Library mode, in the left panel go to a folder with missing images, Right Click and select Synchronize Folder.

Thanks for the help. I did the suggested things. It is still doing some strange things. But it appears that everything is there.

Update: The next time I went into Lightroom and had it search for folders, it found everything and not it seems that all is well with the world. Thanks for the assist!

two things you could try;
