Since posting this at ESS after getting back from CO in early October, I have been slowly reworking it. I even gave it a new title. If anyone has any feedback, feel free.
This is one of those images where it was totally unexpected. Jimmy Gekas, Brent Doerzman and I were camping at the edge of an aspen grove in Kebler pass. I woke early, walked out of my camper and 15 feet from the camper door, I saw this scene. I had not planned to shoot it, but it looked totally different in the morning light compared to the prior evening. It was a "wow" moment. The sun wasn't yet over the horizon, but it was getting light fast. I set up the 4x5 as fast as I could and managed to expose one sheet before it got too bright in the background. As it is, I still had to mask off the background and burn it down. I also had to clone out some initials carved into some of the trunks.
When setting up the camera for this image, I had a strong sense of how I wanted a print to look and this is pretty close to what I visualized.

This glows. You're early rise and hard work paid off, Harley.
I have to admit Harley I've not shot B&W seriously in about 40 years now. This image really makes a strong impression and the desires for that media overall. It would be nice to see a final print on this one, that's for sure.
Dang Harley, you really nailed it now, awesome! One of my favorites of yours, those aspens are so evocative, and the dark background sets them off wonderfully. Pity you had to clone out initials... don't you hate that people do that (marking the trees that is)?!

It looks beautiful, Harley. I'd love to see a print of it.

This is amazing stuff, Harley. Very evocative. And a perfect title to go with it.

You gotta love it when you previsualize an image and it turns out as expected. Kind of reminds me of Ansel's aspen image - with a little twist(s). Beautiful work start to finish!

You hit this one right on the dot! The tones are really very nice, and I like just the hint of detail in the background.
Very nicely done!
