Cherry Creek State Park Deer
The mule deer in Cherry Creek State Park are always fairly easy to approach. Right now, however, they are in the rut and those big boys with the horns have more on their minds than survival. I "shot" this guy from about 30-yards, hand held with my Tamron 200-500mm lens - ISO 400, f/6.3 at 1/2000th of a second - Nikon D2Xs. I cloned a fair amount of very distracting, in-focus grass from behind his antlers.

Nice shot, Rod. I like the neutral colors showing his natural camo.

Hi Rod,
Very nice shot for handheld. He looks very healthy and robust. I like the natural framing with the bush branches. Looks a bit tight at the top above the antlers, but that's minor. Great shot.
