That is good news. I bet Preston and Dan will be happy to have support for their scanners. It is also good to give Epson some US competition and keep them on their toes.
You're correct about all that, Harley. It was just by chance I had sent them an email on a support item about using my i900 with an upgraded PC and overall drvier needs.
I clicked on a few links and there was this update listed above.
Kind of odd they did not show my i900 which was a later release of the i800. But, it did look like they had changed a few things on the i800 for the better. The key however is, whether it shares the same design the i900 and M-1 do with regard to the no-glass between image and scan element. It appears it does, as it looks to also have the slide in tray which allows the image to have no-glass in-between it and the actual scan element.
The M-1 is their best unit these days which was released just about a year after I bought my i900.
This is good news for the LF community. My 1800-f is long out of warranty, but is still working like a champ. When it does go south, it is nice to know that I can still get an M-1 or higher model.
I really need to replace my old epson 4870! This M1 looks like the answer, although I am considering the V700. I am attracted to the glassless tray and the adjustable focus of the M1. Anyone know a dealer that sells this, of is it only available thru the microtek email address?
Jeffrey, as far as I know right now it is only thru the email address. They supply a (310) number which is Long Beach area where they were originally housed over the years. I have had 3 Microtek units over a 15+ year period, only upgraded for features, and have never had one go bad or down for any reason. I know two folks who have the M-1's. Guy Tal being one of the first people who bought one as I know, and a buddy of mine who owns Intellicolor in Riverside where I get my photo processing done. My friend has not turned his off since the day he bought it a year ago now.
I have the i900 with the no glass tray entry feature. It was years back now Microtek's exclusive patented design for awhile anyway. It comes with holders for (12) 35mm - (4) 120 MF and (2) 4x5 LF trays. The auto-focus feature is a plus no doubt, but I have used the auto-focus with the supplied Silverfast AI software scanning at 4 scans and get excellent focus on the scans already. The Silverfast has a setting of 1-2-4-8-16 scans on an image. I use no more then 4 which also helps with noise. If it's real dark and noisy you can always take it to 8 or 16, if you can stand the wait time.
I have an email out to Microtek about the drivers for a PC Windows 7 based and 64bit. They do have a list of drivers for many of the scanners for a PC Windows 7 based and 32bit, but not 64bit that I could find as of yet.

YES!!! I need an M1 or an older 1800f. My has these funky scan lines that prevent me from printing any larger than 16x20. This is great news.
