Abstract birch woodland (um.... creative I'm afraid)

I was in a section of birch woodland that had trees that were very tightly packed together and all rather higgledy piggledy shapes, not straight trunked. I wondered (as you do in such situations) as the sun disappeared, what they might look like as a drag shot in the soft light. I know its a bit of a cliche but I do like the effect, and sometimes, as here, the result can be, well, interesting. The tonal range and subtle colour really surprised me, and the original viewed large is really quite...er...well surprising!

EOS1DMk2n, 70-200 @ 170mm, 0.8 Sec @ f32, ISO 100, handheld. Full frame, slight contrast adjustment.

I think a big print might look stunning but I am not sure if it just looks messy this small.

Very nice. it still gives a very strong impression of a woodland, so it works!

John,

I like it a lot but if you hadn't told me it was birch I wouldn't and couldn't have guessed which plonks it outside of a nature shot and firmly as an abstract. Having said that I bet it would look great as a canvas block print.

Regards

Jon

 You can't let it go, can you? Well you shouldn't. I like this lots.

I think this works really well. I love the variety of subtle colour tones throughout the scene.
The first thing that came to mind when viewing the image was of thin, wispy streams of smoke rising up.
A well seen and very creative image. :toast:

An arresting image John and great to see something different. I think the rather subdude colours make this an interesting abstract concept :toast:

Thanks for the encouraging feedback everyone. I wasn't too sure how this one would be received - so great to see a really positive response! Mind, having said that I'd hate for you to think that I particularly object to negative responses, not at all. Anyone who takes the time to scrutinize and make comment, good or bad, has my thanks.

I know some of this stuff is a bit off the wall but I'm really heartened by your collective willingness to indulge me! Cheers!

Edit: To add - I took another image about 35 seconds before this one, when the sun was actually shining on the birch woodland and I'll post it next - the difference between the two shots is really quite astonishing. You think you have a handle on, and understanding of, the subtle nature of light and then a pair of images like this throw you a real wobbler!

Hello John.

Very nice and I think it would make an excellent big big print.
