Sycamore Night
Shot this one earlier this evening so it's mostly bright moon light and and little fill from an LED and a tungsten light.

A wonderful capture of a grand old tree, Steve. This tree has character.
Among other attributes, I like the way it curves upward from the rock
outcropping.

Steve, this is nice, but I find it a little too busy. The light painting idea is interesting, though.

Steve, the light here seems almost day-light bright for being a moon-lit evening scene. The coverage throughout the shadows is nicely done. A bit busy and a lot to take in here at first glance.

Agree with others about a busy scene. I like the way the tree roots are in the way though...

Man, I'd hardly have guessed this was at night, cool light work! The comp does feel a little busy to me too.

Looks like a daylight image. I like what is happening at the bottom of the image. Cool with a crop of the top half.

Steve, The first thing that struck me about the image was its unity: the colors of the leaves at the top echoed in the rocks and fallen leaves at the bottom; the way the roots seem to become rock and the rock seems to become tree, as if uniting into a single organic thing. I wonder if you tried this again with a darker sky if the background foliage would be less distracting to your main subject. I do like the cropped version better.

Well done! Your use of light is very good and unnoticeable. I like the crop off the top, but find I like it a little more with not so much of a crop. Cropped to the bottom of the broken limb near the top main trunk leaves a good cluster of orange and balance to my eye. Good stuff!
