December's focus is on Danny Burk, who was the founder and original moderator of MWNP. Thanks to Danny for all of years of work he put into getting us where we are today. You can read Danny's story and see his beautiful images here.

Danny
You have a great collection of shots on your web site. I managed to collect some ideas for future trips. I particularly like some of your comps.

Great stuff as always, Danny. I hope you've had a chance to do some shooting for yourself recently.

I enjoyed reading your take on LF on the home page, and really enjoyed the galleries on your web site. I especially like how often you use the pano cam in portrait orientation. You don't see a lot of that, but they work well to isolate a scene. I've been wanting a lesson in 4x5 shooting and may be contacting you soon to talk more about that. Thanks for sharing!

Danny also offers a Smokies 4x5 workshop in both the Spring and the Fall. It is pretty hard to avoid the combination the instruction quality, the teacher and the surroundings!

I took that workshop several years ago and was very happy. I had been shooting 4x5 for a couple of months at that point in time and it worked well for solidifying my understanding of the camera.

Great write up. Really like your tall blue pano image too!

I must say, I also really like how Danny stays active with large format.

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Much appreciated and I'm glad you've enjoyed taking a look at my work.

Brian - I make a point of looking for vertical panoramas. One doesn't see them often, and they're not easy to find in the first place, but I keep an eye out for possibilities. One of my favorite tricks is to carry what I call "composition cards" in my pocket: one for pano format and one for 4x5. They're just two rectangles made from a black plastic report cover, with holes cut for the appropriate shape. I take them everywhere and they help me find a lot of things I'd never see otherwise.

Danny, thank you for sharing your "story" with us! Fantastic images....I'd have a difficult time choosing a favorite, they all are excellent!
