Just gotta brag a little as well as give some thanks. One of my Gyrfalcon photos grace the cover of the December Issue of 'Winging It' which accompanies an article on birding on Long Island Barrier Islands which was written by my boss. The article was supposed to run back in the spring featuring a sanderling photo I took, but kept getting delayed. After I photographed the Gyrfalcon, I sent a few shots to the wonderful editor who I figured would be interested in seeing them. He replied immediately and said he wanted to swap out the other photo and bring the artcile/photo to the cover. The Gyrfalcon photo was taken the first WEEK (2nd day shooting actually) with my new D300s and the landscape photo was shot the FIRST day of owning my D60, gotta love those results!
Now for the thanks. The photo which was selected went through several revisions after so many helpful comments by fellow NPN'ers. A few e-mails flew back and fourth on workflows and tools to be used until I finally got it right, so without you guys this wouldn't be possible (or at least would look a lot more crappy!).
For those of you who don't get the publication, I've attached the 2 photos of mine which appear in the issue.

Congratulations on the cover shot Luke. You must be pretty excited.
Hey Luke, Congratulations to you. I know that wonderful feeling of getting a cover and you should be so excited and hold onto it. Hopefully it will inspire you to "put it out there" more as well for more chances of publication. That's what I've decided to do and it seems to pay off immmediately.

Congrats Luke! I've had my first art show, now I'm just waiting to get published but I will probably have to be more pro-active in marketing myself first. A birder friend of mine wrote an article on ashy storm-petrels a couple years back, I think it was published in Birding magazine but it could have been another one. Maybe I'll just have to collaborate with one of my birder friends to get published.

I certainly wouldn't have landed this cover shot if it weren't for my bosses article. The Editor asked him if he had any appropriate photos, since the Editor is from the middle of the country, and as such doesn't have a whole lot of shorebird photos, so he put the word out to me and one thing lead to another. I recently submitted a photo essay query to a magazine and hope that it will turn into something positive - this experience has definitely given me the confidence I need to start putting my work out there.
Thanks for all the kind words, and once again, thanks for all of the encouragement, advice etc. that has been given to me.

Big congratulations Luke. I especially like that Gyrfalcon image. Simply beautiful. Success always includes hard work, good skills, and a bit of luck. Now maybe the opportunities will seek you out. Good luck. I expecting to see another cover from you.
