Monday I took a very quick and very late trip to Jasper-Pulaski in Indiana. I only had 1 hour of sunlight and 1/2 hour after sunset to shoot. It was worth the trip. This is the first I remember trying to capture birds in flight after dark. I had fun trying it out. It would be worth the trip if anyone has time. The best light would be in the morning, since it would be to your back.
Also, for those interested, Squaw Creek Refuge will explode with birds very soon. They have 110,000 snow geese and 58 eagles now, but it could grow to 400,000 or more. The eagle count could top 200. Fall has been the best in the past untill the last two years. It seems spring has taken over. Last Spring they had over 1,000,000 snow on one count. Here is the site to watch for the counts. http://www.squawcreek.org/sightings.html
Now lets just hope for a little snow then next few days to go out and play in.
I didn't get to J-P (one of these years I will), but know plenty of people who did. Over the final two weeks of November. Most people I know suggest hitting the location for both sunrise and sunset, if doable.

Great shot David! There's something about cranes that make for beautiful silhouettes. I think the branches along the bottom of the frame really help anchor the scene. Thanks for sharing the info and link for Squaw Creek. Its not too far of a drive and I just might head out there before it ices over.

Really nice. Great colors. Looks like it was worth the drive. You gotta love it when it all works out.
