I have witnessed this behaviour many times, and with a range of different birds, including robins, dunnocks, blue tits etc.
The bg is a bit messy, but picking the bird up and moving it wasn’t an option, so I just had to make do. I still smile every time I look at these – I hope you do the same.
All C&C welcome.
Nikon D300 with Nikon 80-400/F4-5.6 @ 220mm/F13. 1/640 sec, ISO 400, EV -0.67. Cropped to exclude even more of the messy bg.

An excellent and appealing behaviour shot. The jay looks in a very cheery mood with a bright eye and open beak. The greens look a bit oversaturated and I wonder if they could be toned down to lessen the distraction?

Hello Mike.
A very nice behaviour shor showing the wing detail beautifully.
I would agree about lowering the saturation.

Nice behaviour shot. I agree the background is a bit messy but I don't feel this detracts from the shot.

Cracking behaviour shot.! Minor nits covered . Little large in the frame maybe but no big deal.

Great behavioural shot and quite comical too. Yes the background could be better but you have to get these when you can and this angle gives the best impact
