I saw Tim Ernst's equipment offerings, and I thought it was a nice gesture to give fellow CSNPers first shot at buying them, and so I thought I would do the same.

I bought my 5D new in September of 2005 and used it until I purchased a new 5DII in September of this year. I have taken about 16,000 images in that time, and there are one or two very minor cosmetic nicks on the body. I have the box around somewhere, as well as the manual, which has suffered some damage to the cover.

Part of the deal is a Canon battery charger and three Canon batteries (BP 511A I think is what they're called).

I'm thinking $1200 plus shipping would be a fair price that undercuts the price at keh.com by a good percentage.

16,000 actuations is not bad considering I've put more than that on the new 5D II...

Randy - oh no, you have moved up to a high-res camera?! No telling what you will be able to do with your genus behind the camera now! Time for me to join AARP and start looking at condos on the beach...

Young fella, I expect I'll be beating you into AARP, but the sun and I have never gotten along, which is one reason I'll always live somewhere where there are more shade trees than at the beach. I wish I deserved to be called a genius, but it seems to me that in a way I've always been in a race trying to catch up with a certain photographer who can run faster than I can; so who's the genius?

But anyway, did I read that right? Are you volunteering to move to another state?

Young? My teenage daughter informs me that I'm going to be a speed limit next year (55).

...The streams of the mountains please me more than the sea...(from a great song) Although the northwest coast from about San Fran on up is pretty darn nice, but of course there are plenty of mountains nearby too. I'm a shade worshiper, and whenever I go to the beach I tend to just dig a hole in the sand and sit there all day. Another state? Are you talking about a mental state?

Tim I think you have been in a different mental than most people for a long time now.

I broke that speed limit a long time ago, I'm afraid. I'm so old I can't tell a 15-year old from a 35-year old; from this distance they both look the same to me: extremely young.

I guess if we're talking about mental states then we already live in different time zones. I live in a state of confusion myself.

Getting back to the task at hand, the 5D was a breakthrough camera and the first affordable fullframe digital - it is a really sweet camera that would be a workhorse for anyone needing such. And I know sometimes folks only look at the megapixel count - generally speaking and contrary to film (where SMALL grain was better), the LARGER the pixels the better, so 12mp fullframe can yield better image quality than a 15mp crop camera. It also would make a great backup body for anyone shooting Canon.

And now back to Randy, the photographer - some of you may notice that he is all about the LIGHT. That is what photography is all about, and someone who understands, seeks out, and is able to capture beautiful light will generally produce images that are different from anyone else's - and that is what Randy has been doing since before digital. I see so many machine-gun shooters these days that are mostly concerned with the subject, but it really is the LIGHT that can make a snapshot or a work of art. Randy, I do think you need to consider Alaska...

I hate to break it to you guys, but the minimum age for joining AARP is 50. Heck, I've been a member for four years. You can also get a "senior" coffee at McDonalds for six bits.

Just in case you guys are interested in some beach property, I included a picture of this place down on Pensacola Beach...

It's a one bedroom high rise unit that overlooks the ocean, nestled among lush greens, and has a lovely ocean view from every window! I'm taking reservations starting next week. Have a look and see the great luxury spot in Paradise! Simply breathtaking!

Ahh, you must be thinking of the American Association of Retired Persons. The Association for the Advancement of Ridiculous Photographers has no age restriction, but requires candidates to take a ridiculously rigorous entrance exam. If you fail, you're in. If you pass, you're out. I'm sure to be a shoo-in, but I don't think Ernst stands a chance.

There are no membership dues and no benefits, except for a cap with the RP logo and motto on it, which consists of a bucket with money flying out of it, along with the words "I'm only in it for the joy of tossing money to the wind."

I'd love to take a look at your beach condo, but I've got this camera and stuff that I've got to pay for, and there's sure to be a new camera next year that I'll just have to have. Thanks anyway.
