Stranger in a strange land
The great northern diver is a very rare bird in Holland. I think this is a juvenile. Wonderful bird and bigger then I thought it would be.

Not completely happy about it because it's a 60% crop so I will have another go in the morning. Also trying to get a lower POV by sitting in the water.

iso 200 1/60 sec. F5.6 Nikon D3 and 200-400/4 from a bean bag

Nice, almost monochrome capture, but I do wonder if it could do with a tad more contrast? Good luck for your next visit.

I know what you mean David but I want it to be monochrome. I tried it with a bit more contrast and it works but I prefer this version myself.

Hey Ed
Good capture of an unusual subject and nice muted colors but not up to your usual standard. I'm sure by tomorrow when you've found some better light and a lower pov it will be another belter.

Hi Edwin, I thought you lived in those waders.

A very arresting image and agree with David about a monochromatic feel. In fact, I thought it would be nice as a 'selenium print', but perhaps on further investigation a duo or quadtone might be better. Found this, not sure if it might help Edwin?

Certainly a good clean shot - but you know you need the light.....tomorrow perhaps?!

Be in touch when I'm back from Bosque.

Thanks Mark, Mark, Steve and Andrew :wavey:

Yes, I know about the light. Well...there wasn't any. Weather is really bad the last weeks and not any different tomorow. But I'm trying anyway.

Thanks for the tip Steve. I will certainly give it a try.

Have a great trip Mark, wish I could come :wavey:

It's times like this when you need to do a "Rousy" and whip a 600 out of your Viper

They are a bit on the big side ain't they Ed..

Nice image under the circumstances - shame about the heavy crop; hope you get some better light next time :wavey:

Bad light or not - it is still a beautiful shot, I like it very much - there's something atmospheric about it.
