I've been absent for a few weeks, so I thought I'd ease back in with a shot from today from the Raptor Foundation - the light was really nice.
Olympus E-3, ISO 200, 1/640s, f3.5 50-200mm @200mm, no cropping, slight burn-in around the bottom and left to 'shape' the light to a pleasing oval.

It is a striking image Andy. There is a very slight softness to some of the feathers that I can't quite put my finger on, perhaps a fraction smaller f stop would help given the shutter speed available.

It was quite deliberate to keep the shallow DOF - I only wanted the eye area and beak sharp - in this way, it's more standard people portrait stuff rather than natural history. Perhaps a more general sharpness was what was required - I'm not sure.
