Backlit Quacker
1D2n, 600mm f4 is, 1/1000s, f8, iso 400. Fill flash

Actually, he wasn't quacking at all - he was just swimming about with his bill open for reasons best known to himself.

Apologies for lack of recent participation - my PC became rather sick and, after a lot of deliberation, I decided to switch platform and I bought a mac. Major headache! I'm sure it will be fine after a few weeks....

Great light and pose from this youngster... perhaps a little CCW rotation is needed... Is there some OOF foliage to the rear of the bird?

As mentioned Ian a bit of rotation but some nice lighting to this and an enduring subject in addition.

The only thing behind the bird is distant OOF reeds. Not sure where you mean Maybe you are seeing the effects of disturbed water?

Hi Ian
I love the stuff you have produced from this site of yours, I have a similar site for great crested grebes and am looking forward to revisiting it in Feb. Particularly brave use of really subtle flash, brave becauses the light looks exquisite anyway but you've balanced it really well, nice behaviour also especially with the inside of the ducklings mouth lit as well.
Cheers
Andy

Beauty. I found swearing with the really bad bad words helped my move to Mac.
