Escalante Trip Planning

I am planning a Escalante trip for spring next year in the April or May timeframe and was curious what time would be better for leafing trees. I want to be late enough so that all the trees have leaves on them but not so late that they are the super deep green. I know this is most likely a pretty narrow time frame and will vary but on average when does this occur? From what I can tell late April to maybe early May would be best but I wanted to get others opinions.

Thanks so much!

I was there in early May a few years ago and the cottonwood leaves were fresh and vibrant green. If I recall correctly I was there around May 10, give or take a week on either side.
