A significant swan...

A significant swan...
Significant because it was taken at a man-made pond in the middle of a housing estate. Significant because in one day spent there with Ian Mason (thanks Ian), I got more usable shots than I could get in a month in the Highlands. Significant because it underlines the much-contravened rule of work locally - or nearly locally in this case.

A subject used to people, a well thought out site (Ian again) and beautiful lighting - a simple but effective cocktail.

Canon 5dII, 500mm, ISO200.

Great image Peter, I like the lighting and reflection but what is in the background?

After watching the latest Natural World I would love to live in the highlands so if you want to swap...

Yes, it was a day I will remember! I reckon you have a few hundred more crackers too. Folks, I learned a lot from Pete that day - how I had been missing shots for months that I just hadn't "seen" behind me. Just shows it's good to meet up and share ideas - many thanks again!

Now, I wonder if that Slavonian Grebe has appeared yet.....

Its a bit like music the amount of scope for something different is endless even on something as a Mute Swan.
Well spotted.

Major.

NIcely done Pete, I have looked at Ians images from this pond with envy on many an occasion, guess I am going to have to look at yours the same now, its difficult to call but I feel it may need a touch of CW rotation...

All the best

Good solid stuff Pete
I always like situations like this where you can expose for the highlights and then get a pleasant surprise when everything else falls to black, very striking
Cheers
