Let it Snow
for Christmas....

Totally out of my comfort zone with this one. Firstly, it is a landscape image, and secondly I converted to B&W. Took this back in February when we had the 'bad' weather and were allowed time off which was a welcome treat!

40D 17-70mm @30mm. ISO 500,f7.1, 1/320 hand held. Cropped LHS and bottom, also stretched canvas across top to give the larger tree a bit more space above. Converted to B&W in CS4.

I think it has worked ok, but I would appreciate any further suggestions.

Regards,

Thought I would add the original too for comparison.

I like the B&W version. Composition is well chosen. Could do with a bit of rotation to the right but I really like it.

Like this one Fran in both forms. As mentioned a bit of RT.

Looks good to me, not that I know anything.... agree it needs a touch of CW rotation...

Mono works well here...

Really like the B&W version Fran. You don't seem to be too far outside your comfort zone with an image like this.

I don't think you are out of your comfort zone with landscapes, Fran, and this one goes to prove it.

A lovely image Fran and I by far and away prefer the second shot. I'm not sure why, but the hint of colour allows the image to speak to me more (if that makes sense!)

I like them both Fran and noticed the crop on the 2nd is different from the first.. A bit more FG and less sky, a bit more tree line on the LHS etc.. So really two different shots that both work well. Add a little CW rotation as mentioned and will make a very nice winter image.

Very different Fran, I love them both but the B+W one has the edge for me because it suits this treatment and brings out the shapes and the shadows of the trees/grasses very well, full marks for something very different from nature  :wavey:

Thanks all for your responses and opinions. Obviously a mixed bag of preferences over colour verses B&W. I prefer the B&W version personally, but then it is a personal prefernce for us all. I do agree with you all however with regards to the slight cw rotation, something I had overlooked., so many thanks to those concerned for pointing it out.

A bit late to this one, but I love the B&W version, and it has taken me right back to when we had similar weather here in Feb! :toast:
