here's one from earlier in the summer which I passed over first time around. Taken very early in the morning hence the dew. It's a female Red Eyed Damselfly.
I always light these high magnification images entirely by flash and normally try to prevent a black background but here I think it works quite well. I also like the fact that the damselfly is showing its mouthparts nicely - these damselflies look very pretty and delicate but it's easy to forget that they are very effective predators.
Canon 450D with MP-E 65 macro lens, f11, 1/160, ISO 100, diffused Speedlight on side bracket, handheld.
Hi Matt
A real window into an unseen world. I like images like these as it reveals just how complex and intricate even the smallest creatures can be, very striking

Wowwwwwwwwww That is just amazing, especially the large version. Never realised Damselflys had teeth like that. They actually look like a crab's pincers. Horrendous!

Fantastic image Matt, the detail is amazing! I wouldn't want to be caught in those jaws thats for sure! The dew drops top it off.

It's best viewed large, so here's a 1000 pixel version.
All C+C welcomed.
