Color or BW? (w/ Escalante re-post)
Thanks to everyone who commented on my recent Escalante post. I bumped the contrast a bit on this "In Escalante" image and the image has grown on me. I tend to shoot pretty simple landscapes and this has more going on than I usually go for.

This group seems to like the BW or color question, so here goes:

The BW version with a slight increase in contrast:

I think my preference is the B&W version, although I think the foreground slickrock would benefit from a little more visible texture. Otherwise it's a great image.

All those gorgeous warm tones in the cliffs demand COLOR!

While I usually am a b/w apologist, in this case everything blends together in the monochrome version.

Its a well composed image either way. In my opinion, the color demonstrates the texture of the far wall much better than the B&W does

Color, without question, for me. Brings out the depth, layers.

Color for me Dave. I didn't even imagine the wall was that decorative until I saw the color version. for some reason the B&W conversion didn't translate the contrast in the wall very well.

Gotta go with the color. Love all the warmth being generated from the cliffs.

Have to go with the color as the cliffs lose a lot of detail and look flatter in the B&W version.

Definitely color, IMO.
Like Kurt, I had no idea about the beauty of the wall in the background 'til I saw the color version.

Tough choice. I like the classic look of the B&W but I think the color and the depth it brings, makes it the choice for me.

I much prefer the color, the black and white just feels a little flat to me.

I like the color because in the BW version, the rock wall, grass, and bare trees kind of blend together. I wonder what would happen if you boosted the reds significantly in the BW version.

Color verdsion for me. In hte B&W there sems to be a lack of separation of the elements. They seem more clearly defined in the color version

Color, color, color!

Color! The red/orange cliffs are great, and the color adds depth to the scene.

Another vote for color, Dave. It really makes this image.

To me, Escalante is all about the color of the rocks. I vote for the color version!

Ok, I think I'll go with the color version. Duh! Thanks for your input, folks.

The color version really looks nice.
