From My Trail
Inspired by Preston's view, I am presenting a view of my world today. I am currently in Sequoia National Park, and it is dumping snow big time. This giant sequoia dwarfs it's neighbors in the Giant Grove, so named by John Muir. The snow in this area is about a foot deeper now than when I made this image this morning. I'm camping in my van, but for now, cozy and warm in the lobby of the Wuksucha Lodge (with wireless). Snow falling hard today deterred my large format desires, so this was made with my Canon. Tomorrow the snow should stop falling, and shooting should be excellent. Too many snowflakes on my lens today!

Tomorrow should be beautiful out there! Have a great time.

Now, did you already plan to be there, or did you leave at the last minute knowing the weather was coming? :-)

You should do this one again in the morning with perhaps some sweet light somewhere.

Nice winter image in the Sequoias.

This has inspired me, Jeffrey, to go to Yosemite tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.

Lon, I monitored the weather for a week, and came up here specifically for this weather event. Thanks for the comment, too! Sweet light is on the menu for tomorrow......

Very nice Jeffrey, there should be a lot less footsteps there than in Yosemite.

Looks like you hit it just right. Have fun!

Wow, you really did hit this at the right time. Once the storm starts breaking it is going to be incredible out there. Winter wonderland time!

I bet driving in it is a bit tricky to say the least!

Thanks for all the good wishes for today. After snowing for 24 hours, it stopped last night and just froze. It was -4 degrees early this morning. Certain things stopped working, like the heater in my van. Got it going soon enough, but it was out for the early morning when it was in deep freeze. My van was coated in snow and ice and the windows were iced inside and out. Couldn't see a thing for some time. Today's weather, you ask? It was a complete turnaround to a bright sunny day, which made shooting snowy forests difficult. How weird is that? I sought shady areas, and snowshoed trails to some viewpoints, but it was brutal. Late in the day, the fog and clouds that was blanketing everything below the parks elevation started to make some interesting scenes, but not for long. We're so picky, aren't we?

Yea.. I got lucky last year around this time with 12 in of fresh snow, and no more (and some cloudy skies the following morning)... else my car would've been there for the season (I was on an unplowed dirt road). Hope you can get out when you need to!

I like it. I can't wait to see what you come back with after the storm lets up. Happy trails and shooting!
