The Illusive American West

Dear All,

I am currently backpacking through the USA and Canada, and my travels take me to Salt Lake City tomorrow, and then north into Canada, across the Rockies to Vancouver for Christmas, and down the West Coast to Arizona by mid February.

I was wondering if anybody is photographing/traveling in these areas at these times, or knows anybody else who is, as I have become frustrated at having to travel on buses etc, which do not give me the freedom to stop when and where I like to shoot. It would be so much more fulfilling traveling with other photographers in the area.

I would also welcome and general suggestions on shooting the West during the winter time, such as where and when to shoot certain landscapes, and recommendations of travel methods.

Many thanks, and I would absolutely love it if there was someone to hook up with to shoot the West!

Hey Sam,
If you get the chance to go south to Bryce Canyon right now, they received a significant snowfall last night and it would be a worth while side trip to catch it with snow.

I strongly agree with Neil, I was in Bryce last t'giving right after a fresh snow deposit and it was totally gorgeous!

Obvious times to shoot are indeed the golden hours, Bryce puts on quite a show during sun sets especially! Just 83miles SW of Bryce is Zion, yet another gorgeous NP, which is equally worth checking out!
