Twin Lakes post blizzard
Actually, they didnt get that much snow--maybe 10 inches or so, Salida area got hammered on the other hand. But it was a bit frosty this morn; -10 deg and maybe -30 or 40 with the wind. I couldnt get to the lake sure in time (was hoping to drive but my low clearance 2WD wasnt up to the task) so i headed up from the CO Trailhead a short ways. It was a lovely cold morn!

#2 A vertical. I posted a better comp on ESS, not sure if this works with the tree on the left.

#3 Just after sunrise

#4 Took lots of pics of the Sawatch and Sangres mid-morning, when the wind was really hitting the peaks.

#5 Not a good day to be climbing, i think  Thats all for now!

I quite like the vertical image a lot. Love the color and the composition. All of them have a great quality of light about them which I think is most successful in the color versions. Well done.

Nice series!
My favorites are the one you posted at ES&S and #5.
B&W conversion is a bit flat, but it sure shows the power of the wind!
Time to invest in a 4X4? They open up a lot of terrain for the photographer.

Thanks, John--i had a Jeep until last year when it expired and i didnt want to buy another gas guzzler--days like this i wish i could have saved it!

Stan,

Have you tried the B&W conversion of 4 and 5 using primarily the red channel? I think it could accentuate the strength of the ridges and help the snow plumes pop against the sky. I think both are really promising shots. The color series are really conveying the frosty temps.

Wow! 1,2,5 are just amazing. #2 just might be my favorite.

Send me a email next time you want to go up somewhere your 2WD won't go. I was actually thinking of heading up Rampart Range this morning but didn't. Not sure what the road conditions are. I have a lifted 4x4 so we could make it a lot further before we got stuck.

Stan, #1 is my favorite. Really like the pastel colors you captured. The tree in #2 is distracting but still a great image. Don't have a clue on B+W conversions but they look flat on my monitor.

#2 is my fave of these, Stan. Tree in the left is ok and not at all distracting.

Nice stuff and sweet winter light. I think the tree in #2 takes away from an otherwise fine image - #3 really stands out - IMHO.

Dang, those look COLD!

#3 is definitely an indian: Chief Big Print On Wall... great image!

#1 too, the lines in the comp really work for me. Actually, the whole series is well done. I don;t mind the tree in #2, it gives you the "standing there" feeling to me. Nice work!

That one on ESS is incredible! The first one posted here, I keep wanting to know what's happening on Mt. Elbert, just out of frame to the right. I really like the last three images here a lot, too. Great stuff, Stan!

These are just gorgeous, I've been out the past couple of days and havn't gotten anything nearly as good, your making me jealous. Great work!

Thanks a lot folks! Im open to suggestions on the B&Ws--Mel your red channel idea might be worth a try. They look 'flat' because i didnt boost the contrast any--if i used typical contrast it destroys all the detail in the blowing snow and doesnt look right at all; these were very low contrast scenes.

Stan.... I love them. First one is so cool... but second one is even better ...excellent composition.... :toast: :toast:

Great images! Like the way the clouds are breaking over the peaks.
