We've all gone on those hard drive treasure hunts and come across images we had forgotten about, or images that can benefit from our growing post-processing workflow competence. And then there's the "analog" treasure hunts, where we find old slides or negatives that we'd forgotten about or passed over. I am currently rediscovering a treasure trove of images from my concert-shooting days as I work on a future project, and this is one such image. Jeff Beck was touring in support of his "Guitar Shop" album, and had SRV as his opening act. Towards the end of the show, he brought Stevie Ray back onstage, where they jammed together for a few songs. I don't remember what they played, but who cares? It's SRV and Beck on the same stage! I've got many frames of these two together, but this one is my current fave, until I scan some of the others at least.

Very, very cool Todd! Definitely want to see more!
I got to see Stevie way back in 1984, also as an opening act. I had no idea who he was, until I heard Pride & Joy, which has just been released I think. All I remember is he rocked! Here's the funny part... he was the opening act for.......wait for it....... Huey Lewis! Doh!
Man, really wish I had gotten to see him again!

That's funny. In that same year I saw SRV in Albuquerque. It was billed as an SRV concert with Jeff Beck as the opening act! And at the end of SRV's show, he brought Jeff Beck back out on stage for one final jam. I guess they toured together and just mixed things up a bit. I feel very privileged to have seen Stevie in concert. He was an amazing guitarist.
Thanks for sharing, Todd! Brings back memories.

Cool shot, and as Jody said it's always fun to look back at old, fun memories.
Classic and totally cool - a timeless capture of two icons havin' a real good time! I have my Bic lighter held high for the next one!

That totally...rocks! Those guys look like they were having a blast. Sure you were too. Being a sometimes guitar player I have a deep appreciation for this image; they are a pair of my favorites.

Phillip, you got me thinking that maybe I was remembering things wrong, so I went back into the Gazette archives and reread my review of the show. They were indeed swapping headlining spots, and we got the show with Beck taking top billing. As much as I love SRV, I think Beck earned his top billing through sheer force of history.

Oh, and for the encore, they played "People Get Ready," and closed with "Going Down," with SRV on vocals and, as you can see from the photo, a fierce guitar solo battle ensued.

Wow, what a show to see in person! As a fan of SRV I always felt that we were all cheated that he left us too soon, he should have had many more years ahead of him. At the time of this show I was 13, but I wish I would have been there!

Shot really reflects the fun they had when playing together. Thanks for sharing the memory.

Awesome shot Todd! Brings back memories of when I saw him in June 1990, two months before he died. His death saddend me, being a young aspiring terrible guitarist at the time. I did accomplish my goal of becoming a terrible guitarist though. "Lenny" is one kick a** instrumental!

Wow! I saw Jeff Beck on that tour, but not with SRV. Great stuff.
