Does anyone have information on when Canon is likely to release an update of the 5D?

Canon is much too tight-lipped for anybody to be able to do more than guess. The 5D was three years old before they updated it. The 5D Mark II is just a little over a year old. I think it will be around for awhile before they update it again. That's my guess.

Nick, did you mean a NEW model of the 5D, or the upcoming update that will provide 24p video?

Firmware Update = possibly April 2010
New Model = probably Fall 2011 (3 years like Buck said)

However, now that hybrids are storming out of the engineering gate, we may see the three-year model change... to what, who knows. For instance, what did the 7D replace? I guess the 50D, but the marketing focus is the 24/25/30p video. Interesting times coming!

Thanks for your replies folks. My question is motivated by my plan to purchase a 5D this Spring. My usual operating procedure, which I am hoping to circumvent, is to purchase a product only to find that a new and improved model has been released within weeks or months of my purchase. The release of the 7D, with dual processors and other goodies, makes me wonder what Canon has up its corporate sleeve for the 5D. If a new model is not likely until 2011, I'll go ahead with my plan to buy in the Spring.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah.

Nick- The key word is "guess"

Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances.
