Do you own a car sat/nav unit?

This isn't strictly nature photography, but if you have a sat/nav, and it is not "built-in", it is probably worth checking with your insurance company whether it is covered by your car insurance policy. After having my car broken into, I was somewhat surprised to learn that my policy only covered losses from the vehicle of up to a maximum value of £100, and that neither the sat/nav, nor the DAB radio were covered, let alone my binoculars or the photographic gear that I lost. The £100 limit is not stated anywhere that I can readily see in my policy. A very high proportion of vehicles on the road now have "non-standard" sat/nav units. I doubt that any of them are covered for theft.

My car's worth less than a sat nav so I keep to a map.

Also, it's a good idea to take the suction cup holder off when out of the car. Some criminals will see that and expect a sat nav/mp3 player in the glove compartment.

My house insurance covers items in the car rather than the car insurance itself. This obviously includes not just sat nav, but camera, lens, binoculars etc. I had to pay a little extra but feel it is worth it. :wavey:

Just a word of warning. Even if your gear is covered whilst in the car it normally means that it should not be on display and out of sight in the boot etc.

This is interesting especially as my car triples in value when I put my gear + laptop in it

Sat navs are for woman though
