Took a ride to the Hope Valley area near Hwy 88 early this morning, about 20 degrees and clear as a bell. This was taken along the E. Carson River as it drops down the canyon below Sorenson's Resort, still in the shade but under a "blue bird" sky.

Hey Reno, this would make another nice Holiday Greeting card too. I'm a bit more fixated on the design of the curves in the water flow then the actual surrounding snow per se. But, overall I'm very happy to see the good amount of snow fall already taking place this early in the season. Thanks for sharing this winter scene.

Hey Reno,
Kinda thinking alongside Paul - I think the exposed water, the blues and the lining between the water and the snow is the most interesting. I'm not sure how much I like all the snow and lack of details... but this is certainly a nice and intimate winter snowscape.
Hope Valley is a little ways from Salinas eh? :-)

Thanks Paul/Lon. I hear ya on the lack of details, actually there are no blown out highlights on the histogram but this web presentation doesn't show that. Ya, Hope Valley is a ways from Salinas, about 225 miles. We have a "getaway" place in Pioneer and I was in the area visiting Preston on Thursday then over the mountain on Friday to check out the Hope Valley area. Merry Christmas to you both.

I like the way the water divides the scene up here. While I enjoy the rocks peeking through the snow near the top, I was wondering what a crop off the top to where the water enters the frame would look like? I was thinking that if the water entered and exited the frame at the edges it might simplify and make the image feel slightly more abstract. Not sure about that though... just a thought. Well seen!
