Hi All,
Went down to Elmley Marshes in Kent in the hope of getting some Owl images but to no avail. There were a few of these knocking around though. Highlights are a bit blown but it was taken at around mid day so not much I could do.
Techs:
Nikon D2X, 200-400mm (with AF problems ) 1/500th sec at f5.6, car as a hide and beanbag.
C and C welcome.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year from Chris.

Relatively little sign of short eared owls in Kent this year, Chris. Barn owls seem to be in reasonable numbers though. This shot sums up current conditions very well.

Hi Jack,
Yea got my car back in Mid October. At least it means I'm getting out and about now though and also getting my next years worth of photographic planned!
Typical Elmley they get too close.... I realise it is difficult to get a good viewpoint at Elmley esp from the car, but with care you can position your wheels in so that it gets you lower which I think may have helped a little.
Personally I would have liked it to be smaller in the frame with this PoV, you don't say what FL you were shooting at...
SEO's are rarely seen on the track up to the reserve, more normally on the walk down to the hides, although late winter early spring they widen their hunting area to include areas around the track, its just luck that you see them, earlier this year there was one hunting right by the side of the drive... apparently there are three barn owls making use of the trees by the scrape at the back of the RSPB building, last time I called in they were emerging at around 3.00pm...

Hi Phil,
Many thanks for your reply and info about the SEO's.
The focal length that I was at was 400mm. This particular bird was quite comical in the way that he kept coming closer every time I clicked the shutter. I wish every bird would do that!
