Eurasian Woodcock, Scolopax rusticola in the snow.
Probably my bird subject highlight of the year; I stumbled upon this Woodcock on Tuesday and spent well over an hour with it, some of the shots I used fill-in flash, but the light did come through the freezing fog and allow some natural light images, this is one of them (many more on my Flickr gallery).

A superb image of a very elusive bird - I like everything about it Nigel - well done

Jobs a good un as they say Nigel and what a fantastic subject to round off the year(almost the end).
Lucky or what. I am green with envy. Mind you I would settle for a Partridge in a pear tree. I'm not proud.

You certainly took full advantage of this great opportunity.

Sweet, Nigel.
Snow and frost combine to make life hell for these little critters. In conditions like that wait close to a spring in a wood or field and there's sure to be a woodcock visit it if they're in the area
Superb detail and love the catchlight in the eye
