 Cedar Waxwing
Playing around in the snow I spent over an hour watching a group of these waxwings and bluebirds eating berries out of a couple trees. With only a 70-200mm lens I got as close as I could and then stood as still as possible to get a few decent shots. After an hour wow, I had to move.

Cedar Waxwings are named for a small red waxy tip on their secondaries. Younger birds don't have this, obviously this is a young bird, but I thought a very nice looker none the less.

A beautiful bird, cedar waxings and this one is no exception. You captured wonderful coloration Brad and the snow & crabapple tree gives a great envirnomental setting. Really nice job for standing closeby & handholding. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Brad, Beautiful shot. I like the placement of the bird and the framing of it with the branch in the upper portion. The color rendition is "spot on" and the dof highlights the subject. Normally the lower right portion of the shot would look very empty - but the snow flakes add just the right touch to offset the bird and berries.

I like it....

this is great. I spent about a half in my backyard doing the same thing a couple of days ago. I didn't get anything as good as this though.

Brad, the shallow DOF works very well in your photo. Great shot.

Incredible photograph, Brad. One of the best bird shots I've seen in a long time. I'd love to see a cedar waxwing sometime; they have such beautiful markings. :toast:

Great work, Brad. The bird pops against the blurred background and is nicely framed by the in-focus branches, and the falling snow really sets the image apart.
