Hello all and a belated Happy Christmas to everyone
Apologies as this is another kite but I was over in Mid Wales visiting family over Christmas and as there was snow on the ground I couldn't resist a sneaky couple of visits to Gigrin.
I've not removed any meat from the image and I've simply cropped it to a square format as I wanted to balance the crows behind which I would obviously have preferred to have been separate from the kite, c&c's always welcome

Lovely shot!!
I love the corvids behind, they would work really well on their own!!Very arty!!!

Love the angle of the bird taking off makes the image for me,Never been to Gigrin, and have been trying to get to there for the last week,to try and get a kite in the snow, best one I've ever seen is Danny's one earlier this year in the snow but with christmas and weather was unable to go, going next week, which hide would you recommend Andy?
Hey Craig
Danny was the very first hide (far left as you look toward the feed site) because he has stubby little legs and can shoot standing up. I'm from better gene stock and as I'm quite tall I tend to prefer shooting from the tower hide but this image was actually taken from the Gateway hide.
Thanks by the way for pointing out that fatty's shot is the best you've ever seen, that'll no doubt raise a smile on his chubby little Christmas face.
Cheers Craig and best wishes for the New Year

A super shot Andrew... I would love to be there in the snow but oh so far from the south east for it to be practible... I am however not fond of the crop and feel that the image is stronger if you lose a lost of the lower portion with the kite low but heading upwards....
Greetings.....

Certainly a very different Gigrin shot.
Can't make my mind up about a different crop though or the corvids in the back.
Cheers

I agree a different shot of a Gigrin Red Kite. I like it very much but think I would prefer it without the corvids.

Hi Andy, thanks for the comment and I think the tower hide is the best for me Dannys shot of a lone kite in the snow is brillant, but page 12-13,January issue of BBC Wildlife and the shot there is brillant also :wink (forgive the creeping):Ref Dannys legs-not getting involved only that they get him around and do the job very well Happy new year to you also+Danny

I agree about trimming a bit from the bottom and with your own assessment about the two birds being rather too close to the kite. Would've been great without those. No doubt you have others in the sequence?
Hi all and thanks for your comments
Craig - cheers mate, very kind of you
Re:- the crop - I can completely understand why people feel it needs this crop and ordinarily I would have done this to tighten up the image but I just felt that the image was more flexible this way and I kind of like the tuft of grass at the bottom. I also felt that the kite, and its shadow would be a little too close to the bottom of the frame if I took it out.
Ian - 'others in the sequence' I wish!
Comments greatly appreciated, thank you all
